Everyone tells new techs to image every drive, but a clean install plus data transfer beat it 9 times out of 10 at my shop in Boise
I keep seeing guys in here say to always clone the old drive before anything else, and I just don't buy it as a blanket rule. Last month I had a stack of 12 machines from a small office here in Boise, and I imaged half of them and did clean installs with a manual data pull on the other half. The imaged ones came back within two weeks with driver weirdness and old junk software causing slowdowns, while the clean installs have had zero callbacks in 6 weeks. I mean, imaging is faster, sure, but on aging Windows machines you're just dragging 4 years of crud into a new drive. Curious what you all do when the customer has a ton of oddball apps they swear they need?
