Blew $180 on a "premium" thermal paste kit for a rebuild that didn't need it
Turns out the stock paste on 4 of my shop builds last month ran 3C cooler under load, and I only tested it after a customer in Boise complained about fan noise on his 6 month old rig. What's the paste you all actually trust for a basic air cooler, or am I just overthinking this?

Been there man, I once bought a tube of paste that cost more than the cooler it was going on. Slapped it on, ran the same temps as the goop that came free in the box. Felt real smart about that one. These days I just use whatever came with the cooler or a $8 tube of MX-4 and call it a day. The whole premium paste thing is mostly hype unless you're chasing the last 2 degrees on a hot chip. Save the cash for a better fan.
