A dentist's comment made me rethink how I explain fixes to clients

Last week in Columbus, my dentist said 'you don't need to know the drill model, you need to know why the filling works.' It hit me because I've been rattling off specs and part names to customers for years, but they just want the 'why.' Now I lead with the simple cause and effect, then offer the deep dive only if they ask. Anyone else simplify their talk track after a random convo like this?

That "why the filling works" line is a great way to cut through all the noise, and it makes me wonder how many other industries overcomplicate things just to sound smart. Once you frame it as the outcome instead of the tool, clients actually start trusting you more, because they feel like you're solving their problem, not just showing off gear. I've started asking myself "so what?" after every technical detail, and if I can't answer that in one plain sentence, I drop it.
