Vent: My dive partner in Tampa told me to always cut a bigger hole in the hull plate than the spec sheet said, and it cost us a full day's pay.
He argued the extra quarter-inch gave us 'wiggle room' for the bolts, but the surveyor flagged it as a non-compliant repair, so has anyone else had a partner's shortcut advice blow up like that?

Check the spec sheet with the surveyor before you start next time. Gets you both on the same page and covers your back.

That extra quarter inch sounds like the kind of brilliant idea you get after your third energy drink at 7 AM. I mean, wiggle room for the bolts is just wiggle room for the surveyor to dock your pay. Classic case of someone thinking they're smarter than the spec sheet, and the spec sheet always wins in the end. Bet your partner won't be giving out free "time-saving tips" for a while.
