Took me 4 hours to replace a single valve underwater last week because I forgot to check the bolt pattern first
Ended up having to haul a whole different set of wrenches back down from the boat after a wasted trip, anyone else ever mess up a simple job by skipping the prep?

Honestly I used to be one of those "just wing it" guys but after pulling a boner like that I'm a full convert to prep now. Nothing like wasting half a day to learn a simple lesson the hard way man.

Elliot_harris25 is speaking the gospel there, man. I've been that "just wing it" guy too many times, and it's always a circus when it goes sideways. Reminds me of the time I tried to fix my buddy's outboard without checking the oil type first - ended up with a bilge full of milky sludge and a lot of explaining to do. Prep work is like checking your fly before a first date, you don't realize how important it is until you've got egg on your face. Skip it once, learn the hard way. Skip it twice, well, you're just stubborn.
