Galley stew after dives must be a game changer. My uncle used to make a huge pot of beans after we'd been out in the snow all day. That instant warmth is what you really need.

Oh man, my version of that would probably give them the chills. My last attempt at a mystery meat stew looked so bad my dog wouldn't even go near his bowl. Pretty sure I'd be handing out food poisoning instead of warmth.

Honestly, what if the stew is just a hot distraction? @betty_ward, maybe that instant warmth from beans is just a quick fix that doesn't last.
