That dive in Mobile Bay last week changed my whole view on comms gear.
We were on a bridge piling job, 80 feet down. My old wireless unit cut out for a solid minute. Couldn't hear topside at all. Had to just sit there in the mud, waiting. Switched to a hard-wired system the next day. Anyone else had a close call because of gear failure?

A full minute with no topside at 80 feet? That's a hard no from me. Sitting in the mud down there waiting for a signal to come back would mess with my head. Good call switching to hard-wired right away, I don't blame you one bit. Wireless has its place but not for something that critical. Makes you wonder what other gear we all trust that could just quit like that.

Always pack a backup comms unit for deep dives.

Is it really that big a deal though? Like @the_tessa, I get the worry, but gear fails sometimes (it's just part of diving). You switch to your backup and move on.
