Pro tip: passed 1000 dives in the Gulf and my log book taught me something my memory never did
After hitting 1000 dives last week I went back through my log and found 11 of my 14 worst near misses all happened in the same spot about 40 feet down where the current rips across a pipeline crossing, and the only reason I caught the pattern was writing down the tide and time on each entry, so does anyone else flag their problem spots by depth or do you track them a different way?
Read a DAN article a while back about this exact thing, they said logging depth plus conditions helps you spot risk patterns you'd never remember on your own. I started adding a simple danger flag next to any entry where something felt off, whether it was current, viz, or just a gut thing. Three seasons in, two spots near a wreck I dive keep showing up over and over in those flags, and the funny part is I used to swear those dives were all fine.
