Old school vs new gear debate in the Gulf last month

Me and my partner had a big argument 3 weeks ago offshore in the Gulf of Mexico. He swears by his old Kirby Morgan helmets still. I upgraded to a new Dive Comm last year. His argument is the old stuff never fails. Mine is that new comms are just clearer and lighter. Which side are you on for deep work?

Old kits have their place but acting like the new stuff is junk is just stubborn. I've worked deep on both and the weight difference alone saves your neck by hour four. Your partner's helmet might never die but my Dive Comm has been through a dozen rough dives with zero issues so far. The clarity on comms is night and day too, no more yelling into a squawk box when you're on a mixed gas job. Old metal, sure, it's tough. But lighter gear means less fatigue which means safer work overall in my book.

Yeah, old gear is just more reliable in saltwater.
