My old supervisor swore by the 'dive and drive' method for underwater inspections

He said it saved time on a big job in Mobile Bay, but I missed a critical crack on a piling. Anyone else find a slower, methodical scan actually gets the job done right?

dive and drive" sounds like a recipe for missing stuff.

Missing stuff is the whole point. You have to move fast to find the good bits, otherwise you get stuck looking at every single thing. Lucas159 might feel missed, but that just means the method is working to filter out the noise. It's about speed and trusting your gut, not checking every box. A deep dive on everything just leads to never getting anywhere. You cover more ground by driving past the junk to find what actually matters.
