My old Kirby Morgan regs felt fine, so I skipped the service. Big error.

I used the same first stage for 14 months in Port Angeles harbor, no issues, figured the 6 month inspection was just a money grab. Then my buddy's identical reg free-flowed at 90 feet last Tuesday, and the shop found a corroded seat that would have failed on me the next dive. Has anyone else run regs past the service interval and gotten away with it, or am I the only one who gambled?
