My old instructor told me to never use a drysuit in warm water, I didn't listen

Back in 2022 I was doing a hull cleaning job in Galveston in August, water temp was like 85. My dive instructor from years ago always said to stick with a wetsuit if it's above 70 degrees, but I thought I knew better and used my drysuit. Ended up overheating so bad I had to abort the dive after 20 minutes and felt awful the rest of the day. Anyone else been told some piece of advice that you ignored and regretted?

Bet your instructor probably knew what he was talking about but the bigger issue nobody brings up is condensation inside the suit. When you're in 85 degree water and sweating like crazy, that moisture gets trapped in your drysuit and suddenly you're not just hot, you're basically stewing in your own juices. Then when you finally get out and the air hits that wet underlayer, you freeze your tail off on the boat ride back. Happened to a buddy of mine in Florida last summer, he spent the rest of the day shivering in his truck with the heat on full blast.

Saw a video recently where a guy drilled holes in his drysuit for venting, sounded crazy but your buddy probably wishes he tried that @matthew_morgan.
