Hot take: skip the fancy drysuit zipper lube, try this instead

I was fighting a sticky drysuit zipper on a job off the coast of Newport last fall, tried the expensive brand stuff and it barely helped. Got desperate and put a thin layer of silicone spray lube meant for my truck door seals and it worked perfect for three straight dives. Anybody else find a random off-brand fix that ended up working better than the real thing?

100% man, I did the same thing with my wetsuit zipper on a shitty surf trip in Baja. The official zipper wax was like $20 and did nothing, so I grabbed a can of CRC silicone spray from the auto shop and that thing glided like butter for five straight days. Lasted through salt, sand, and me being lazy about rinsing it. I even used it on my drysuit once when I was in a pinch in Monterey and it worked way better than the overpriced tube I had before. Honestly, I think half the "dive tech" stuff is just rebranded hardware store crap with a crazy markup. You're not alone.

Probably says more about my truck maintenance than my dive gear, but yeah I've been using that same silicone spray for years now. My drysuit zippers have never been happier, though my fire gear might be jealous.
