Found a better way to clear a blocked Kirby vacuum in Seattle
I was out on a job near the Ballard locks last week and my Kirby started losing suction bad. Took the hose off and noticed a wad of hair and debris stuck right past the bend. Instead of fighting it with a coat hanger like usual I used a shop vac on the other end to pull it through. Took maybe 2 minutes instead of 15. Anyone else do something similar to clear a tough clog?

It's actually a good idea to reverse the airflow like that but the real trick is to keep the shop vac hose sealed tight against the end. Even a tiny gap lets air sneak in and you lose all that pulling force. Worked great on my old Windjammer when a sock got sucked in somehow, never could have got it out with a hanger. Just make sure the shop vac has enough power or you're just blowing air around in circles.

Yeah but saying the seal has to be perfect is overstating it a bit. I've done this plenty of times with just duct tape wrapped around the connection and it still worked fine. A little gap won't kill it as long as the hose is on there decent.
