Blew $340 on a "dive knife" with a titanium blade and it's the worst gear buy I've made
Used it on one job in Port Arthur and the edge rolled on the first piece of rope I cut, so I went back to the $30 beater I've had for 6 seasons. Anybody else got a gear purchase they regret, or am I the only one who fell for the fancy catalog photo?
Sounds like a lemon more than a bad idea. Titanium is actually a solid blade steel if it's the right alloy and heat treated right, which most knife makers do NOT do on dive knives. They slap titanium in the catalog because it sounds cool and won't rust, then ship it soft as butter. I've got a titanium Spyderco that holds an edge fine through salt water and barnacles, so don't write off the whole material off one bad batch. You probably got a wall hanger with a fancy photo, not proof that titanium knives are junk.
