Appreciation post for the backup O-ring kit I keep in my truck

My primary comms cable fitting started weeping on a hull cleaning job in Tampa Bay yesterday. The spare from the kit got me through the rest of the shift without losing contact with topside. What's the one piece of backup gear that has saved you recently?

O-ring kits are lifesavers, especially with salt water eating everything. I keep a small tackle box in my van with common sizes for hoses and fittings. It's saved me from having to pack up a job early more than once. A tube of silicone grease in the same kit makes the swap easier and helps them last.

Backup gear is great, but what about when the backup fails too? Had a regulator hose o-ring blow on a shallow dive last month, and my spare kit was all dried out and cracked. The whole thing was useless because I never checked the dates on the rubber. Now I mark the purchase date on every kit with a sharpie. When was the last time you actually looked at your spares?
