Update: My buddy went from casual reader to full collector in 6 months

I have a friend named Dan who always said he just liked reading the stories. Six months ago he walked into a comic shop in Austin for a signing and left with a graded copy of Amazing Spider-Man #300. Since then he has spent around $1,200 on bags, boards, and short boxes. He now talks about pressing, grading tiers, and which CGC signatures are legit. I didn't push him into any of this, but seeing him change so fast makes me wonder. Has anyone else watched a friend or family member go from reading floppies to chasing keys overnight?

Oh man, I had a coworker do the exact same thing. He walked into a shop for a free comic book day, and now he's got like five long boxes and talks about newsstand variants like he's a stockbroker.
