Tried reading Silver Age X-Men for the first time and almost fell asleep

I got into comics through the 90s cartoon and always heard people say the old Silver Age stuff is where it all started. So I picked up a collected edition of the first 10 issues from 1963. The dialogue was SO over the top and every issue had some random villain like The Blob or a giant ant. I could barely get through 2 issues before giving up. Has anyone else had this problem jumping into older comics after starting with modern stuff?

Total different vibe. Silver Age is a whole different animal. You into any other old school runs or just the X-Men?

The trick with Silver Age stuff is to treat it like a time capsule and not expect modern pacing. You have to read it for the wild ideas and the art, not for deep character work or fast plots. Maybe try jumping ahead to issue 12 or 14 where things get a little less random with the villains.
