The 'pure fan' label gets thrown around way too loosely

I saw three separate posts this week calling people fake fans for not owning every variant cover from 1991. I've been reading since 1987 and I skip most anniversary issues, that doesn't make me less of a reader. Is anyone else tired of gatekeeping based on how much money you drop versus how much you actually follow the stories?
