That Omni-bus I bought on impulse is now a doorstop on my desk
I grabbed this massive X-Men omnibus for $75 last year because everyone online said it was essential reading. Thing is, it weighs like 8 pounds and the binding is so tight I can barely open it past page 50 without feeling like I'm gonna crack the spine. Now it just sits there collecting dust because I'm too scared to actually read it. Anyone else pick up a fancy collected edition and realize it's more like a decoration than a book?

Read somewhere that those big omnibuses are actually designed more for shelf display than reading, which explains the stiff binding and awkward weight. Marvel and DC make their money on collectors who want them to look good on a shelf, not people who actually want to flip through 800 pages. That $75 might sting but at least it's a good conversation piece when someone notices it on your desk.

Pretty sure half my "reading" collection is just heavy paperweights at this point. Snagged a House of M omnibus a few years back, same exact problem - you need two hands and a prayer just to get past the first issue. Honestly, I think people exaggerate how fragile these things are. Crack that spine open, read it on your desk like a medieval monk studying a tome. Worst case it gets a little crease and joins the club with every other book you've actually enjoyed.
