That 50 cent back issue bin saved my wallet, no joke
I used to walk past those dollar bins at cons thinking it was all junk, but last month at the Philly show I grabbed a stack for 50 cents each. One of them was a 1987 Spectre issue that I later found out goes for like 30 bucks online. The cover was creased and the binding was loose, but the story inside was solid and it filled a gap in my run. Has anyone else had a surprise score from the bargain boxes or am I just lucky?

Honestly, that’s how they get you, right? Once you pull one gem out of a bargain bin, you’re hooked. I’ve found more than a few hidden keys that way, but my best was a beat-up copy of a 90s Swamp Thing annual that had a foil cover nobody cared about. Turned out it had a first appearance of a minor character, and I sold it for enough to cover the whole box plus lunch. The trick is to look past the creases and stickers, because the real value is usually inside the story, not the cover. You just gotta dig slow and check every issue, even the ones that look like trash. Luck helps, but patience is the real winner.
