Spent $200 on a graded comic from the 90s and got burned by a restored copy.

Bought a supposedly 9.8 Batman #500 off eBay, but after paying a pro to check it, turns out the cover was color-touched and now I'm out the cash - anyone else deal with restoration scams?

Read a post last week from some PSA insider who said about 15% of high grade 90s books on eBay are either pressed wrong or restored. Makes you wonder how many people are just flipping these with zero integrity. @amy_reed79's friend got lucky eBay refunded him, most people get ghosted just like you did. That's why I only buy raw copies from sellers with long histories and get them graded myself now. Too many scammers hiding behind the slab.

Friend of mine dropped $300 on a 9.6 Amazing Spider-Man and the whole back cover was a cheap color touch job. He only found out when he tried to resell it and the buyer's grader caught it in ten seconds flat. eBay took his side but the seller just ghosted and made a new account. Now he just sticks to raw copies and gets them graded himself. Whole thing is a mess and I don't blame anyone for being paranoid about it.
