Serious question, how do you all handle a longbox that's packed too tight?

Last week I finally tried to pull out issue #12 of a run I've been collecting for 3 years, and it took me 20 minutes just to get it out without bending the cover. I've got about 450 comics in a single longbox, and I think I overstuffed it back in March. Is there a trick to organizing them so you can actually flip through without wrecking the bags? Do you sort by series or by number, or do you just leave gaps at the end? I'm about to redo the whole thing this weekend and I don't want to make the same mistake twice. Has anyone else dealt with this or am I just being too picky about my books?

Honestly, I get the frustration, but I think you might be overthinking it. I keep my longboxes at about 400 max, and I sort purely by series, then by number within each series. That way, when I need issue #12, I just pull the whole series bundle out, flip through it, and put it back. It's way easier than trying to slide one book out from a packed row. Also, I always leave like 10 empty spaces at the end of the box, which gives me room to shift things around without a fight.
