Overheard a kid at my LCS say 'why read old comics' and it hit me different

I was at my local shop last Saturday flipping through a dollar bin and this teenager told his friend 'why would anyone read old comics, the art looks weird.' It made me realize how much the hobby has shifted toward modern storytelling and digital art. I remember spending whole afternoons reading my dad's old X-Men issues from the 80s and loving the simple stories. Does anyone else feel like the older stuff gets overlooked now, or am I just turning into an old man?

The kid's missing out on the whole foundation of the medium. Those older comics had a raw energy and charm that modern digital work sometimes loses. It is a different kind of art, but it is what made the hobby what it is today.

Eh @adams82, I dunno if it's that deep lol. The kid's just reading what he likes, same as we all did when we were his age. I grew up on those 90s Image books with all the pouches and crazy anatomy, and I turned out fine... mostly. Let him enjoy the modern stuff, there's plenty of time to get into the classics later if he ever gets curious.
