My LCS guy in Akron told me to stop bagging my books, he was right for once
Been going to the same shop for 5 years, and the owner finally convinced me to drop mylar for standard bags on older issues. He said the tight seal was causing spine roll on the shelf, and after checking a 1997 run I've had bagged since 2012, sure enough a few covers had that wave. Switched to slightly oversized bags with a board, and the difference in how they lay flat is obvious. Anyone else had a dealer give advice that actually saved them money in the long run?

That spine roll thing is real. I had the same issue with some 90s X-Men books and never connected it to the bags until my guy pointed it out. Loose bags with boards are the way to go for older stuff. The tight plastic just puts constant pressure on the cover. That "wave" you mentioned is exactly what I saw too. Good call dropping the mylar for those.
