My friend in Seattle told me to skip the '90s X-Men reboot and I regret it.

He said the writing was bad and the art was messy, so I never bought the trades. I finally read them at a con last weekend and they're actually pretty solid, especially the character work. Has anyone else been steered wrong on a comic run they ended up liking?

Honestly that's the worst feeling. Tbh I got talked out of reading the early Hellboy stuff for years because a guy at my old shop said it was too slow. Finally grabbed the library editions and it's one of my favorite things ever. Bad advice can really make you miss out. Some people just have a super specific taste and act like it's fact. Gotta just try stuff for yourself sometimes.

The first Hellboy trade actually moves pretty fast. It's mostly short stories with quick monster fights. That shop guy must have had a weird hangup about pacing.
