Just realized choosing between Marvel and DC isn't the real debate for us fans

Had to pick which longbox to keep after my basement got a little damp. One box was all my 90s X-Men runs, the other was my early Image stuff like Spawn and Savage Dragon. I picked the X-Men because I thought they'd be worth more later. But now I find myself missing those weird Image comics way more than I expected. Kinda makes me wonder what other fans pick when they have to choose between sentimental value and potential value.

Sold the Image run from my longbox about five years back. Kept my copies of Spawn #1 through #9 and the early Savage Dragon issues because I actually enjoyed rereading them. The X-Men books sat in a short box under my bed for a decade, and I barely cracked them open. Sometimes the stuff that makes you smile beats the stuff that collects dust on a shelf.

Set a rule for yourself like "if I haven't opened this box in 18 months, it goes." That way you don't have to guess what you actually care about, the calendar tells you. Makes the cutting process a lot less painful when you have a hard deadline to lean on.

Did you ever regret selling the X-Men books later on? I held onto a run of Uncanny for years before I finally admitted I just didn't care about them anymore. Letting go felt better than having them sit there like a chore.
