I used to keep all my comics in cardboard boxes in the garage, but after a pipe leak ruined my Amazing Spider-Man #300, I switched to a $200 waterproof storage bin system.

What's the best way YOU protect your collection from random disasters?

Ouch, that hurts just reading it, losing a key issue like that. @roberts.jesse has a point about the garage being risky, mine never even goes near an outside wall. All my good stuff is in plastic bins in a closet upstairs, away from any pipes. It feels like a constant battle against moisture and bad luck, right? What kind of bins did you end up going with?

My own collection got hit when my basement took on water during a bad storm a few years back. I ended up moving everything to a spare bedroom closet on the second floor, away from any plumbing. The real game changer for me was getting a couple of those heavy duty 64 quart Sterilite bins with the gaskets on the lids. They're not fancy or super expensive, but they keep the humidity out and I can stack them without worrying about crushing anything.
