DAE get burned by an overhyped comic series that turned out to be a mess?

I was skeptical about that new superhero run everyone was raving about on here last fall. The art looked flashy in the previews, but I figured it was just hype from the big publishers. After 3 issues, I realized the story made no sense and the characters were flat. It cost me $18 to learn that slick covers don't fix bad writing. Anyone else fall for a series that looked good but flopped hard?
