A guy at the comic shop told me my pulls were too mainstream

Last month some dude in a Dr. Strange shirt looked at my stack and said 'you really need to branch out from Marvel event books.' So I grabbed a copy of Monstress on a whim and now I'm 30 issues deep. Has anyone else had a random stranger totally change your reading habits?

Monstress is a pretty good book but you're only 29 issues in, not 30. Issue 30 just came out last month. @diana_bell74 got lucky with that bus stop trade, The Wicked + The Divine is a tough one to pawn off on people because the whole god-reincarnated-as-pop-stars thing scares them off. I had a guy at a convention tell me to stop buying every X-Men crossover and try East of West instead. Changed my whole outlook on what a comic could be. Strangers are good for that, they don't care if you drop it or not.

29 issues into Monstress and I still don't know how to describe it to people without sounding insane, but hey, that's a good thing. I had a similar thing happen at a bus stop a few years ago when a random girl saw me reading Saga and handed me a dogeared copy of The Wicked + The Divine. Completely derailed my pull list for like a year and got me into stuff I never would have touched otherwise. There's something about getting a recommendation from a stranger that hits different than just browsing the shelf. Maybe it's because there's no pressure to like it, so you can just let the story do whatever it wants with you.
