A guy at my local shop in Akron told me my longboxes were a mess, so I switched to one simple rule
I keep around 14 longboxes and for a long time I just shoved new books in wherever there was room. Last month I was at a shop in Akron and this older guy watched me dig through three boxes for a single issue and said flat out, "you file by title or you file by mood, you can't do both." It stung because he was right, I had Spider-Man split across two boxes and half my indie stuff mixed in with the big two. So I picked one rule and stuck with it, everything goes alphabetical by title, no exceptions, and if I pull a book out to read it goes right back in the same spot. It took one Saturday and about four hours to fix, and now I can find any issue in under a minute instead of flipping through everything. The weird part is I used to enjoy the digging, but now I actually read more because I'm not dreading the search. Anyone else got a filing rule they swear by, or am I the last person who had this problem?
