Unpopular opinion: my boss said to ditch our green/red success buttons, and 3 weeks later I finally get it
I used to think red and green buttons were totally fine, like come on, everyone knows green means go. Then my boss, who is red-green colorblind, pulled me aside at our office in Columbus and said he literally cannot tell our green "Approve" button from the red "Delete" button on the same row. That hit me hard because those two buttons sit right next to each other in our app and a wrong click there is a big deal. So last week I switched us to blue for confirm and orange for cancel, plus added a small check or X icon on each one so there is a shape cue too. Our support tickets about people clicking the wrong button dropped from 11 to 2 that week, which honestly blew my mind. Now I am second guessing every dashboard and chart I have ever built, because if my boss struggled, how many other people just quietly deal with it? Has anyone else had a coworker point out a color problem you never even noticed?
