Tried designing a dashboard with only blue and it confused my colorblind coworker

Last month I created a project dashboard for our team using different shades of blue to mark task status. I thought it looked clean and professional. But when my coworker Mark took a look, he said he could not tell which tasks were urgent versus complete because the blues all blended together for his red-green colorblindness. I had not even thought about that. It made me realize that relying on color alone, even with different shades, is a bad idea for accessibility. Now I add simple icons or text labels next to every color indicator. Has anyone else found a good symbol set that works well for status tracking?

Actually red-green colorblindness wouldn't cause blue shades to blend together since that affects red and green perception, not blue.
