PSA: those red/green pattern swatches in my icons failed my brother in law, and I finally get why | Colorblind Friendly Design

I always figured the warnings about red/green combos were overblown, but when my brother in law (who is red/green colorblind) looked at a dashboard I built in Denver, he could not tell my success dots from my error dots at all. Now I add a shape or a checkmark to every status color, so is anyone else pairing icons with color instead of trusting hue alone?
