Overheard a designer say colorblind people can still see contrast

I was at a coffee shop in Portland last week and someone was talking about how their red-green colorblind coworker could still tell buttons apart if the brightness was different. So I tested a UI I'm working on by squinting at it and suddenly a bunch of labels I thought were fine just disappeared. Anyone else try the squint test before sending a design out?

Three labels just disappeared when I tried that squint test on my own laptop screen.

Happened to me last week. Check your scaling settings first. Right click desktop, display settings. If it's set to anything other than 100%, that's your problem. Windows does weird stuff with text at 125% or 150%. Also try toggling "Let Windows try to fix apps so they're not blurry" in advanced scaling settings. Fixed mine right away.
