Just realized my chart colors stopped lying to me after I killed the red-green legend
I keep thinking about a dashboard I built back in March for a guy at work who is red-green colorblind. My old way was just grabbing whatever palette looked nice, usually green for good and red for bad, and I thought that was clear enough. He stared at it for a bit and then asked which bars were the warnings, since both sets looked like the same muddy brown to him. Now I never lean on color alone, I add a little shape or stripe to each bar and label the bad ones with a triangle up top. It takes maybe 10 extra minutes when I set up the chart, but he can actually read the thing now. If you build reports, what's your go to trick for making good and bad stand apart without leaning on red versus green?
Does it really take 10 extra minutes though, or does it just feel that way when you're already in the zone building the thing? I've skipped the shape and stripe stuff plenty of times and nobody has ever said a word, so I'm not sold that this is a big deal for most reports. Seems like the one guy who couldn't read it was going to say something no matter what you built.
