Last week I watched a bakery sign fail in 3 seconds
I was standing in line at a bakery in Portland last Thursday and the sign was bright yellow with thin white text. From 10 feet away I could not read a single word, but up close it looked totally fine. That got me thinking about how I design stuff on my monitor at 100% zoom and never check it from a distance or at small sizes. I went home and tested my own portfolio at thumbnail size and half of it looked like mush. Has anyone else caught a design failing only when you step back and squint at it?

Same reason store signs look fine up close but trash from the street.
