I was picking website colors based on my own taste for 6 months before a user test proved I was wrong

The moment you realize your "good taste" is actually just you being in a bubble is humbling. @miles_jackson9 that five minutes of silence is brutal - those are the longest seconds of your life. I once painted a whole room a color I thought was perfect, then my wife walked in and just stared at me for a solid ten seconds before saying "we need to talk." User testing is basically that feeling but for designers. Hard to swallow but saved me from launching something ugly.

That "user test proved I was wrong" line hits hard. I once spent weeks on a feature I thought was genius, only to watch the first beta tester get completely stuck on the first step. It was a brutal five minutes of silence.
