I finally tried the 60/30/10 rule and got a totally different result than expected

I finally tried the 60/30/10 rule and got a totally different result than expected. I painted my living room in Portland with a muted sage green as the 60%, a dusty rose for the 30% furniture, and thought a bright mustard accent wall would nail the 10%. Instead of looking curated, it felt like a bad 1970s diner and my wife literally said 'what were you thinking' when she walked in. I think the problem was the mustard had too much warmth next to the rose, so they both fought for attention instead of one being the pop. Anyone else find that the 10% accent needs to be a cooler or darker version of what you'd expect, or am I just picking bad hues?
