Debate: Warm accent walls vs cool neutrals for small offices
I tried swapping a client's beige office walls to a deep terracotta accent wall behind the desk, thinking it would add energy, but they said it felt like a cave. Then I repainted everything a pale blue-gray and got complaints it was too cold and sterile. So which color temperature actually works for a 10x12 room with one window?

Read something from a color consultant once who said the problem with small rooms is that any dominant color eats up all the light. That terracotta probably worked against the single window, making the space feel even smaller and darker. Pale blue-gray can feel sterile if there's no warmth in the flooring or furniture to balance it out... maybe a warm off-white or a soft greige would be a better middle ground. My buddy tried a muted sage green in his office and it felt cozy without being too dark or cold.

That bit about terracotta eating up the light is exactly what happened to my sister-in-law's kitchen. She painted a tiny galley a deep olive color and it went from a cozy vibe to feeling like a cave, even with a big window. A warm greige sounds perfect honestly, it keeps things light but still gives that cozy feel without needing perfect furniture to balance it out.
