Took me 3 days to realize my dark mode design had buried links
I spent almost 72 hours tweaking shadows and borders on a dashboard layout before a friend glanced at it and asked where the clickable text was. Turned out my link color was only 2.8 contrast ratio against the dark background, which WCAG AA says is a fail. Who else has spent way too long on a detail that color contrast checkers could have caught in 10 seconds?

My buddy's car has a black dashboard with black text on some of the buttons. You literally have to shine a flashlight on it to read anything at night. It's like designers forget real people actually have to use this stuff.

Oh come on, is it really that bad? I mean yeah, black on black isn't ideal, but you're acting like it's a safety hazard. My sister's old Honda had the same thing, you just learn where the buttons are after a week. It's not like you're reading a novel while driving, you're just cranking the AC or switching radio stations. Plus, most cars have backlit controls now anyway, so this is probably a 10 year old design issue. How often are you actually hunting for a specific button in the dark that you don't already know by feel?
