The WCAG contrast checker told me my 'light gray' text was fine, turns out it wasn't
I was building a simple sign-up page for our little library group in Columbus, Ohio last month. I used the WebAIM contrast checker and it said my gray text on white got a 4.6 ratio, just above the 4.5 minimum for normal text. But then I printed it out on our old laser printer at the library and you could barely read it. Turns out the checker assumes pure white and perfect lighting, but our copy machine adds a tint that drops the real contrast to around 3.1. Has anyone else run into this gap between digital checkers and real world paper output?
