Just realized my new app's button colors were a problem for my colorblind friend

I was showing my buddy the prototype and he couldn't tell the 'submit' button from the 'cancel' one because I only used red and green. I swapped the green for a blue with a different icon, and now he says it's way clearer. Has anyone else had to fix a design like this after getting real feedback?

Honestly, this feels like making a mountain out of a molehill. Most people can figure out a button from the context of the page, not just the color. Your friend gave you a note, you fixed it, and that's fine. But acting like this is some major design flaw everyone needs to panic about is a bit much. How many users are actually going to have this exact problem? It seems like a very small edge case to worry so much about.

My friend's mom couldn't submit her tax payment online because the green button just looked like part of the background to her. It's not always about context.

Riley58, it's not a tiny edge case when real people can't pay their taxes. Color contrast is a basic rule for a reason (lots of folks have vision issues). You can't just rely on context if the button blends into the page. A simple fix is adding a clear border or making the button a much darker shade. It takes two minutes and helps way more people than you'd guess.
