I used neon yellow on white for 3 years before a friend squinted at my poster

I design flyers for my church group in Austin, and I thought neon yellow on white looked fresh and modern. A guy with glasses leaned in and said "Is this blank?" and that is when I realized nobody could see my text. Has anyone else had a color combo they loved that turned out to be totally invisible?

Try squinting at your own design next time, that test saved me.

Wait, have you tried it on a dark background? Neon yellow actually pops like crazy on black or dark blue. I learned that the hard way after making a whole batch of yard sale signs that nobody could read from the street. Keep in mind that what looks good on your screen might totally wash out in real life lighting. A quick test is to take a picture of your poster from a few feet away and see if you can still read it clearly.
