Hot take: a guy on Reddit said my footer text was invisible, so I finally learned to check contrast
I built a little site for my cousin's lawn care business last month and I was pretty happy with how the dark green footer looked against the near black background.
Then a guy on r/web_design commented that the phone number in the footer was basically unreadable and told me to run it through a contrast checker, and my text came back at 1.9 to 1 which is way under the 4.5 minimum.
I lightened the footer text to a pale mint and got it to 7.2 to 1, and it still looked good so I didn't have to change the whole palette.
Now I keep a contrast checker tab open the whole time I'm picking colors instead of just trusting my eyes on my own monitor.
Does anyone here check contrast on hover states too, or is that overkill?
