Warning: That one guy on Discord who gave me bad HTML advice

I was in a beginner coding server last Tuesday and this dude named Alex kept telling everyone to use tables for layout. He said it was the only way to get pixel-perfect designs. I listened and spent 3 hours building a page that broke on every phone screen. Then someone else pointed out he was trolling beginners for fun. Has anyone else run into fake experts like that in coding chats?

Learned my lesson the hard way too. @emma_ramirez is right about hobby communities having those types. What worked for me was asking for code examples from multiple people before diving into a project, not just trusting the loudest voice in the room. If someone can't show you working code, their advice is usually worth ignoring.

Totally happens everywhere, not just coding. I feel like every hobby community has that one guy who acts like an expert but is just repeating outdated advice they heard once. It's like watching someone confidently use a wrench to hammer a nail.
