Vent: watched a guy at the Seattle library debug for 2 hours and he never once read the error message
I was sitting at the computers on the 4th floor of the central library in Seattle on Saturday and this guy next to me spent almost 2 hours fighting a Python script. Every 30 seconds or so a red error would pop up and he would just start deleting random lines and retyping them, over and over. I finally peeked over and the error said missing a colon on line 12. That was it. Two hours of his life gone because he never actually read what the screen was telling him. I did that exact same thing for my first 3 months of learning to code, so I get it, but man watching someone else do it hurt my soul. How long did it take you guys to finally start reading your error messages instead of just panicking?

Did the guy ever notice you watching him, or did you just bail before he finally added that colon?
