Tried installing Python via the official site and got a ton of junkware I didn't expect

I downloaded Python 3.11 from python.org last week and it tried to install a Microsoft app package and redirect me to the Windows Store before I even got to run a hello world script, so beginners should just use the Windows Store version directly instead, has anyone else dealt with this mess?

Did you end up just trashing the installer and going through Windows Store instead? I used to think the official download was the only safe way, but after that whole mess I realized the store version skips all the junk and works just fine for me. That experience definitely changed how I handle Python installs now.

Actually read somewhere that the Windows Store version has some weird permission issues with file paths being super long. Heard it can cause problems with certain libraries not finding what they need. But honestly, my experience has been the opposite of yours. The official installer worked just fine for me for years until it started bundling that weird adware crap. Switched to the store version recently and it's been smooth sailing so far. Go figure, right?

... maybe the junk is just Microsoft trying to push everyone to the Store.
