The day I realized VSCode was eating my lunch compared to just using Notepad++ for PHP

I spent like 3 hours last Tuesday fighting with VSCode trying to get it to stop freezing on my old laptop. Extensions were fighting each other and the linter kept yelling at me. Switched to Notepad++ for a quick PHP fix and had the whole thing done in 10 minutes flat. Has anyone else just given up on fancy editors for simple stuff?

Oh man I used to be such a VSCode evangelist (like I'd get into arguments about it and everything) but yeah this totally changed my mind. There's something really freeing about just opening a file and fixing it without all the overhead and drama.

Oh boy, that brings back memories. A buddy of mine who does PHP work bought himself a new MacBook Pro last year, loaded it up with all the fancy tools, and spent the first week just trying to get it all to stop crashing. He finally had to fix a client's emergency bug and opened it up in nano over SSH because nothing else would work. He told me the whole situation had him laughing and pulling his hair out at the same time. Now he keeps a plain text editor on his desktop for those quick one-off fixes.
