Spent 3 months watching free JavaScript tutorials and still couldn't build a simple form without copy-pasting. Broke down and paid $35 for a beginner course with real projects. The difference was the instructor explained why the code worked, not just what to type. Finished my first working calculator app in 2 weeks after that.
